A Tribute to George Fawcett

We are very sad to announce that George Fawcett, our box office manager, passed away on Saturday April 2 after a courageous battle with cancer. George was one of the founding members of the Ancaster Film Fest committee and a very dear and close friend to many people. He was a retired math supervisor from the Hamilton Board of Education and was an exceptional teacher, a remarkable math leader and a marvelously gifted math author. He had a passionate and understanding way of working with children who found mathematics extremely difficult and continued to tutor numerous students up to just before his death. George was a considerate, kind and gentle person and shared his passion for golf, basketball (especially the North Carolina Tar Heels), bridge, books, music and movies with his family and many friends. He was a key member of the Ancaster Film Fest committee and contributed greatly to many of the ideas that made our Film Fest so successful. He was a wonderfully caring and loving husband to Elaine and father to Lyle (wife Jen and son Devon), Alicia (Paul) and Sylvia (Mike). His wife, Elaine, is one of our box office ladies at our 7:15 p.m. screenings and also a member of our committee.

On a very happy note, their daughter Alicia delivered a baby girl, Amelia Sylvia, on April 5. Mother and daughter are healthy and happy and we know that this birth will bring the family much joy to help them through this very difficult time.

Please keep George and Elaine and their family in your thoughts and prayers. George will be missed by all who knew him.

FAWCETT, George Lisle Peacefully at St. Peter’s Hospital Palliative Unit, Maplewood, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, April 2, 2011, in his 67th year. Dear husband of Elaine Fawcett. Loving father of Lyle (Jen and Devon), Alicia (Paul and Amelia), and Sylvia (Michael). George was an employee of Hamilton/Wentworth Board of Education for 33 years prior to retirement. The family wishes to thank St. Peter’s Hospital for their care. Visitation will be held at Cresmount Funeral Home, 1020 Upper James Chapel, Thursday, April 28th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., with a Tribute to George’s life to be held on April 29th at 11 a.m.
